Angelina KernerSay Hello to author Angelina Kerner!

    Author Bio
Angelina Kerner, a Pisces, was born during the Chinese astrological year of the Snake, which she absolutely adores. Angelina loves snakes and was once allowed to feed one a rat. That was an experience of a lifetime.
She moved around during her young years from Novosibirsk to Kaluga in Russia. Finally settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, her teenage years were spent dancing in troupes and performing on stage. The dances ranged from waltz to tango, from Jewish to Russian, and finally belly dance. She was accepted into six out of seven universities and decided to stay close to her family. Angelina pursued a psychology degree until she saw graduates working for Starbucks and then decided to pursue another career path in the Department of Social Sciences. The difficult coursework, her job, and finding her life partner inspired her to turn to writing which, at the time, wasn’t so much a hobby as a way to escape daily routine.
She worked on countless stories, never really finishing them, but came to understand that flash fiction wasn’t for her. After finding an online community where she met her best friend, her writing flourished, making publication a possible next step. She is now the author of Deity’s Soulmate, a fantasy novel for 18 and over, and of Seven Hours: Challenge Accepted, a chick-lit novella where the main character is disabled. She aspires to publish her other fantasy and crime fiction works soon. Her next project involves a competition for a beautiful Phoenix. That novel will, hopefully, make its debut in 2018. Angelina currently divides her time between her family, work, writing, and a lot of cats. She is super excited because her son was born in February 2017.

    Book Excerpt
    Book excerpt 1:

“Chanel!” I heard my best friend, Brigitte’s exuberantly loud voice shout out to me. “Know what you want?”
“Just a latte,” I replied, once I regained my composure. “I’m simple, remember.”
“I’ll pay this time,” Brigitte returned, letting me go to dart up to the counter to place our orders. “Two lattes, please.”
I zoned out on Brigitte from there. My mind was still back at the Dr. Greenwood’s office.
I really should have been more hopeful about the treatment, but then it really only consisted of some pills that didn’t quite seem to be working. I felt a bit bad that I hadn’t told the doc about some of the symptoms, mainly the headaches. I reasoned that they could have been side effects from my enhanced sense of smell and hearing brought on by my condition.
I tried not to be bitter about my disability. Well, I hadn’t been bitter about it, until I reached the dating age, and even then, I had managed to hide my bitterness quite well from my busy working parents.
“I hate it when you zone out, hunny,” Brigitte whispered into my ear, startling me from my inner musing, and making me jump. She laughed at me. “Come on. Mike is holding a table for us.” She hugged my arm, and we walked away from the coffee counter.
“Chanel, you look lovelier every day,” Mike announced upon our arrival. One of the reasons that I liked Mike was that his voice sounded always friendly and inviting.
I rolled my eyes at him even though there was no effect, since I was wearing my darkened glasses. “Mike, just because you learned a new phrase, does not mean that you need to keep testing it out.”
“I don’t,” Mike defended. And someone came over to our table to set our drinks down.
I sat down in my chair and reached for my drink, bringing the cup to my lips. The taste was exquisite, not my usual. I recognized the difference instantly.
“They used whole milk this time,” I concluded.
“Yap,” Brigitte responded quickly. “I told them to use whole milk, because you prefer whole milk.”
“Thank you,” I replied gratefully then closed my eyes, enjoying the cup. I heard Brigitte and Mike tapping away on their phones, probably texting.
“So how was the doctor’s appointment?” Brigitte asked between taps. “Is there hope?”
“It went okay. Nothing special,” I replied. I had never told them about my pills.
“So guys, what do you want to do?” Mike asked after I heard him slip his phone into his jeans pocket.
“There’s a new George Clooney movie that I would like to see,” Brigitte suggested.
There was a shuffled foot sound underneath the table then, Brigitte laughed.
    “Brigitte,” Mike snapped.
“Sorry, I forgot that you don’t like the movies that much, Chanel,” Brigitte apologized.
“It’s all right; we can go. I’ve got nothing to do until this evening, anyway.”
“Great!” Brigitte exclaimed in satisfaction of having her way while Mike remained silent.

    Excerpt
“Don’t get me started again. My mascara can only take one meltdown a day.”
Their laughter filled the car. That was why she called him.
“And where does Alonso fit into this scenario?”
She knew she couldn’t slide that one pass him. Her boyfriend, correction, ex-boyfriend wanted to play house and told her he had no plans of getting married anytime soon. Her vision was cloudy again.
Sandra wiped away the tears, taking deep breathes. It was over.
“I can’t stay in a relationship not headed to marriage,” she stated. Not to mention her “Get Married” deadline was approaching. And there went her “Start a Family” goal too.
“So are the tears are for him?”
Sandra shook her head, “No.” Alone in her SUV. Sitting in traffic. She knew she looked a mess. She thought about the source of her pain. Was it the shock of finally ending it with Alonso? She knew they were nearing the end even if they both didn’t want to admit it. Maybe it was the thought of starting over? Or knowing the tears are…
    “Sandi answer me…”
She took a deep inhale through the nose she released a very audible breath from her mouth. She could do this.
“No, Bruce. I know it won’t work between us, but I hoped it would. I wanted it to. I just fault myself for letting it linger longer than it should have. The tears are because, hold on,” she took the first exit she saw.
Sandra pulled into the Walmart-size gas station and located a parking space under a light. Again she placed the car in park. She looked around, and it was well lit, and she had another hour before the sun completely set.
“The tears Bruce are my way of letting go of it all. My dream,” she whispered, “I can’t find a husband. This means I can’t have kids. This means I won’t have a family. And I will live my life alone. And I just—“
“Really Sandi? You break up with the man for five minutes, and now you’re an old maid.”
    “It’s not funny.”
She could see the smile on his face in Atlanta from Houston. The octave of his voice went higher when he smiled. And she smiled with him, lessening the hurt. A little.
“And to see Cindy get it all,” she continued, “I’m happy for her really.” She realized she must sound pathetic. It was her sister. Her baby sister at that. She was happy for her. However, she couldn’t help but compare their lives.
Cindy planned to marry her high school sweetheart who now played for the Houston Texans. While Sandra owned Coffee Confessions, a little slice of her heaven on earth.
The cafe served coffee and light food accompanied by a bookshop and intimate concerts. The business turned a profit every year, with great employees, customers, and a boyfriend until a few hours ago.
    When would her someday come…

They disconnected with the rumble of his laughter lingering as she reentered the highway. Sandra didn’t share Bruce’s optimism, at least not yet, but she thanked God for him. He was the best friend a girl could have.
Before backing out of the parking space, she bowed her head for a quick prayer.
    Father,
Help me use this time to let go of what is not for me. Help me to see and embrace Your plan for me.
    In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Alex has planned and executed her life with laser focus since she first met her future husband at the play-doh table on the first day of kindergarten. They have a terrific life, a gorgeous house on the bay, and fantastic careers they love. There’s only one problem: Alex’s husband Michael is gay, a fact he neglected to mention in the 23 years since they first met.
Now, Alex’s perfectly planned life has completely fallen apart, her biological clock is starting to feel like the timer on a nuclear device, and she finds herself drooling over her completely-dreamy-but-definitely-off-limits client, a star chef opening a hot new restaurant. Armed with dating guidance from her oddball collection of advisers—including her gay ex-husband, a foul-mouthed political consultant, a perkily masochistic yogi, and a pot-smoking octogenarian—Alex navigates the booby-trapped world of modern dating, in her search for a second chance at love.

    Chapter 1

You know that feeling when you’re suddenly startled out of a deep sleep, and you’re in that hazy middle world where you’re not sure what’s real – like maybe you actually could be chasing after an ice cream truck wearing only fishing waders and a canary yellow bridesmaid’s dress, or you’re just one answer away from winning a year’s supply of adult diapers on a Japanese game show?
My cell phone is in my hand, although I have no recollection of answering it.
“Don’t panic,” says Darcy, as I struggle to rouse myself.
Darcy is my closest friend, aside from my husband Michael, who’s been the love of my life since the first day of kindergarten when I convinced him that the blue Play-Doh tasted exactly like cotton candy. He ate the whole can, just to prove me right. Michael was like that.
Darcy is a one-woman hurricane: a fiery, tell-it-like-it-is political consultant who is as hard on the men she dates as she is on candidates: As Darcy likes to put it, “I don’t have time for screw-ups.” She never calls me in the middle of the night.
“Oh my god, is someone dead?” I ask.
“Why is that always the first thing out of your mouth?” she says.
“Because someone always is,” I say.
It’s still dark outside and I check the clock: 5:04 am. Clumsily, I grope around on my nightstand until I locate the lamp switch and flip it on.
“Darcy, what’s going on? I ask, propping myself up in bed. “Did somebody die? Or not”
“Ugh. You’re about to,” she says.
“What do you mean?” I ask, feeling completely freaked without knowing why.
“There’s a story on one of the sports blogs. It’s about Michael.”
“My Michael? What about Michael?” I ask. My intestines do a nosedive and a nauseating cocktail of dread and adrenaline race through my body. Oh God, is he dead? He’s out of town for work, and I haven’t talked to him since last night.
And then, the more obvious, “Why are you up in the middle of the night reading the sports blogs?”
    Darcy ignores me.
“It’s a post about Michael having an extramarital relationship with a 21-year old college basketball player.”
“That can’t be true,” I say with all the self-assurance a woman can possess while still wearing her pajamas. “What’s her name?” Michael would never cheat on me. Never. I’d kill him. Kill him dead.
“Alex, it’s not a her. It’s a him. Bobby something. He plays for Michigan, graduates this year, thanks Jesus after every basket, leads his team in prayer before every game.” she says.
“A him? “ Wait, wait, wait, what? I don’t understand. You’re saying Michael is sleeping with a man? A MAN?” And then it dawns on me. “Oh gawd. Did you say Bobby? Bobby Cavale?” I ask. “Michael wouldn’t shut up about him. How talented he is. What a big career he’s going to have. How he was the next LeBron or something. I thought it was just his stupid jump shot.”
“Apparently it was his layup.” Darcy deadpans. I snort and then giggle involuntarily. Darcy cracks jokes at funerals, scandals, and tragedies. It’s her way of helping to break the tension. Because it’s hard to contemplate throwing yourself in the path of a speeding termite truck when you’re rolling around on the floor laughing.
“Wait, are you saying…do you think Michael is gay?” I ask, absolutely incredulous.
“Yes,” she says. “Most definitely.” I feel my chest cave in.
    “No, seriously?” I say.
“Seriously,” she responds. The line goes quiet. Which is unusual for Darcy.
“You’re crazy! Why do you think that?” I ask.
“Well, even aside from the whole making-out-with-a-guy thing, I always thought he was gay. I’ve never seen a man more insanely happy, jubilant even, reporting from the locker room. And then of course there was that crazy Halloween party you guys threw last year. Michael was, hands down, was the gayest Count Chocula ever. Also, I’m pretty sure he only took up biking so he could shave his legs and giftwrap his package in spandex. But that’s just speculation.”
“Why wouldn’t you tell me?” I say, pressing my palms hard against my forehead in hopes of triggering some sort of twenty-minute amnesia, like a reset button for my brain. “Jesus, I feel like such an idiot.”
“It never occurred to me that you didn’t know. It seemed so obvious,” says Darcy. “I mean, you didn’t get your psychology degree online, or stuffed inside a box of cereal, did you?”
I sigh deeply. This is not making me feel better.
Darcy asks, “Look, do you want me to get my crisis team on this and check it out? My best guess is that it’s going to blow up over the weekend, and depending on how it’s handled, die out by Monday. Unless there’s more. Or video. It’s not every day that a top draft pick and an ESPN broadcaster get caught screwing around. Michael is going to need a good publicist if he’s going to keep his job. The media loves to devour its own. Tell him to call me if he needs some names.”
    “Mmmmhmm,” I respond numbly.
“Or, you can scratch that and just let him hang on live TV. Your call.”
“I don’t understand,” I say. ” Why does some stupid sports blog even care that two grown men are having sex, except for the fact that they both happen to work in sports?”
“Because Michael is married. Because Michael is a basketball commentator and Bobby is a top draft pick. Because Bobby is super religious and has felt the need to speak to the media extensively against what he calls the sins of blasphemy and homosexuality. And because Michael is higher profile than the average hook-up.” She snorts, “Between the homosexuality, and adultery, all Bobby needs is for Michael to schedule an abortion and he’ll have Satan’s trifecta. ”
“Are you sure it’s even true?” I ask. “Maybe it’s just a rumor.” Please, please let it just be a rumor. A cruel, but completely false rumor. A case of mistaken identity. Something we’ll all be laughing about a year from now.
“It’s true. There are… pictures.” she says. “I’m so sorry. It was probably bound to happen one way or another.”
“Pictures?” I sit straight up bed, gripping the phone so hard my fingers began to numb. What the hell? Was I serial killer, or a door-to-door magazine salesperson in a past life or something? Outrage and humiliation sear my every thought.
Disconnected sounds dribble from my lips, but my mouth can’t form any more words. Like I’ve been tasered. Actually, I’d rather be tasered. At least when you’re tasered things go back to normal after the eighteen million volts of electricity hit your heart. You lose your breath, your body seizes up, you twitch around on the floor, you drool, maybe you pee yourself. But you probably recover. There is no way I’m ever going to recover from this.
“Yes, pictures,” she says. “Listen to me, you do not want to get involved in this mess. There are plenty of reporters who will be happy to agree you’ve been wronged and that Michael is a bastard. And then they’ll put your puffy face and bloodshot eyes on camera and the story will last a week or a month instead of a couple of days.”
“I’m going to kill him,” I say.
“No you’re not,” she says. “Don’t answer any calls on your cell that aren’t from people you know. Do you guys still have a land line?”
“What am I, eighty?” I ask.
“Lay low, stay home, order food, or rearrange your medicine cabinet or something. Don’t watch TV. Don’t surf the internet. Don’t even think about Googling ‘Craigslist hit men’ or ‘how to poison my husband with leftover pizza and household chemicals.’ Call your web designer right this minute and tell her to put a home page up on your website that says it’s under scheduled maintenance. Do NOT speak to any reporters. The last thing you want to do in a firestorm is add oxygen. You need to lay low and hope it’s not a slow news day.”
“On camera? Is this really going to go that far? Michael isn’t Steve Phillips, he’s just a college basketball announcer. Oh God. I just heard myself.”
“Yes,” says Darcy in her most soothing voice. “He’s a college basketball announcer who’s screwing one of the top college players in the country. Not exactly some unknown intern. ” I put my head in my hands. Darcy kept talking but I couldn’t focus on the words.
“I can’t handle this,” I say. “What am I going to do?”
“Yes you can,” Darcy says firmly. “Just break out the liquor and pray for a natural disaster.”

What an interesting read! I have been eyeing on story lines that are a bit different than what we usually get to read. I would love to read the remaining chapters of the book.

    Blurb

Country-music star, Dory Walker, never wanted to come back to the small town of Sycamore Bay. But after her fairy-tale life is flipped upside down, and her marriage becomes a casualty, she has no choice.

Harris Malone is a man with few commitments. He keeps a low profile most days while he cares for his young daughter and helps run his dad’s hardware store.

But when he and Dory run into each other at the local gas station, all either can think about is the searing kiss they shared many years ago.

Can a woman who only wants to rekindle her career and a man who enjoys a no-strings attached lifestyle find everlasting love?

    About the Author

tracy KrimmerTracy’s love of writing began at nine years old. She wrote stories about aliens at school, machines that did homework for you, and penguins. Now she pens books and short stories about romance. She loves to read a great book, whether it be romance or science fiction, or any genre in between, or pop popcorn and catch up on her favorite TV shows or movies. She’s been known to crush a candy or two as well. Her loves include fitness, reading, coffee, dogs, and naps (not in that order), and her dislikes are blue cheese, cold weather, and burpees.
